The Dr. Otto H. Schmitt Award is given on a triennial basis by the International
Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE). The criteria
for the award reads: “For exceptional contributions to the advancement
of the field of medical and biological engineering.” The first award
was given in July 2000 to Dr. Herman Schwann at the IFMBE World Congress
in Chicago. The second award was given in July 2003. Congratulations to
