Part 1. Blood pressure.
a) Measure your own blood pressure, systolic and diastolic, or that of a partner, with at least four of the instruments provided in the laboratory. Specify which instrument in each case and repeat until you can estimate the expected repeatability variations. Now analyze the relative precision of each instrument and comment on the overall accuracy of this class of instrument.
b) Choosing a blood pressure measuring instrument that you like, measure your blood pressure again and now try to alter this reading upward or downward by mental effort, no muscular or breathing tricks, and report your results with appropriate comments.
Part 2. Heart rate.
As in Part 1 a, measure heart rate with at least four of the cardio-tachometers provided as you did with blood pressure. Evaluate the precision and accuracy of the meters and comment on your findings.
As in Part lb, determine the extent to which you are able by mental effort to speed up and to slow down your heart beat.
There is no hurry, but try to get your reports in by April 23.
